JOB TITLE:               Mechanical Area Technician

 

REPORTS TO:           Engineering Maintenance Manager / Area Lead Technician

 

PURPOSE:                 A Mechanical Area Technician will report to the Engineering Maintenance Manager and Area Lead Technician. A Mechanical Area Technician will perform repairs and maintenance at the Longleaf facility in accordance with defined policies and procedures. The Mechanical Area Technician will deploy their resources to effectively and efficiently provide service to all equipment assigned in such a way that it assures maximum efficiency and quality of work.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

  1. Actively follow and promote company policies on Safety, PPE, LOTO and energy isolation.
  2. Actively participate in the Longleaf Plant safety process. This includes complying with all safety rules and procedures and participating on a plant safety team.
  3. Ensure that all work is completed safely and that equipment is correctly assembled into the original state after completion of any work.
  4. Responsible for reporting and investigating any safety incidents or issues in assigned area.
  5. Assist with off shift breakdowns as needed by phone or call back.
  6. Assist in performing daily machine audits to identify mechanical defiencies of equipment.
  7. Attend pre PM (Preventitive Maintenance) meetings to plan and organize mechanical PM’s on assigned equipment and to ensure correct parts are available to complete PM’s. Be a resource to complete corrective items on PM.
  8. Communicate key mechanical parts that are needed in stock to limit downtime.
  9. Daily use of SAP to manage work orders, close work orders and record hours used on each repair.
  10. Provide daily update to Engineering Maintenance Manager and or Area Lead Technician on downtime and breakdowns in assigned area.
  11. Mentor team members and participate in continuous skills development.
  12. Able to hold themselves accountable for good performance.
  13. Assist other engineering associates to perform work as required to keep production machinery and auxiliary equipment in working order.
  14. Troubleshoot and Fix Mechanical Breakdowns.
  15. Identify and repair damaged bearings, broken rolls, and other mechanical failures
  16. Ability to understand bearing and equipment part numbers and the correct application of each.
  17. Any other duties deamed necessary by the Engineering Maintenance Manager or Area Lead Technician.

 

QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  1. 2 Year mechanical degree/certificate OR equivalent proven experience within the industrial, manufacturing, or construction industry and knowledge of mechanical components

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:   

 

  1. Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  2. Must have awareness of PC hardware components, desktop operation system software and application software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Access).
  3. Should possess excellent analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot and resolve opportunities.
  4. Able to interact effectively with management, subordinates, staff, vendors, customers, and work independently, and/or as part of a team.
  5. Must be able to lift 50lbs and be capable of using motorized equipment (fork trucks, Scissor lifts, etc.).
  6. Must be self-driven.

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

 

  1. Basic written and communication skills.
  2. Must be able to communicate with all associates effectively.
  3. Must be able to see clearly and pass pre-employment drug screening.
  4. Ability to use a computer and enter data daily.

  4. Lifting:                  Ability to lift up to 50lbs:                                                                      25% of day
  5. Climbing:             Ability to walk upstairs/hill, step up platforms, traverse stairs                  50% of day
  6. Push/Pull/Reach: Ability to push/pull fabric, reach for tools, pull self onto PIV, push                                                                        and pull range mechanics (ie rolls, bearings, etc)                                   50% of day
  7. Bending:                Ability to pick up objects from the floor                                                 25% of day
  8. Walking:               Ability to walk on uneven surfaces                                                        75% of day
  9. Visual Acuity:       Ability to read documents, computer screens, mechanical equipment      100% of day
  10. Work Environment: Manufacturing environment including temperatures in excess                                                                      of 100 degrees Fahrenheit and humidity level in excess of 98%.         100% of day

 

Shift Requirements: Associate must be available to work an 8 to 12 hour shift schedule including weekends.
