POSITION TITLE

Technical Service and Development Engineer, Plastic Film Applications

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position will involve new product development, new applications development for existing products, and technical support for existing products, in the areas of plastics additives, especially involving their incorporation into plastic film. This position will be located out of our Corporate Headquarters in Spartanburg, SC.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop applications for new and existing products
  • Support sales and marketing functions to help reach sales goals
  • Assist customers in person or by phone/email with product-related problems and participate in product field trials
  • Independently call on customers to gather sales and market information
  • Supply plant technical coverage during development runs of new products
  • Study and stay abreast of new thermoplastic polymers
  • Present project status reports to management
  • Develop proprietary technology in products and end-use applications
  • Work independently and in a cross-functional team environment
  • Coordinate physical property testing
  • Assist to create intellectual property from studies
  • Study the interactive effect of multiple additives on polymers

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • BS or MS degree in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Polymer Science, Plastics Engineering, Packaging Science or Packaging Engineering
  • 5+ years of experience in PE film processing and design (or relevant experience) to include: 
    • Blown and/or cast plastic films
    • High-density polyethylene (HDPE), linear low-density polyethylene (LDPE), and polypropylene (PP)
  • Capable of engaging with a global technical team to support new product introductions, customer trials, or industry related questions
  • Experience with internal and external customer interaction demonstrating subject matter expertise
  • Self-starter; high initiative and motivation
  • Skills in presentation and written communication
  • High mechanical aptitude
  • Strong, flexible, problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated statistical method and disciplined analysis
  • Ability to travel up to 30% as projects and assignments dictate
