POSITION TITLE
Technical Service & Applications Development (TS&AD) Lab Tech
POSITION OVERVIEW
This hourly position is part of the Performance Colorants & Ingredients (PC&I) Business within Polymer Solutions. This role provides technical support for current Milliken products used within the consumer package goods (CPG) market and assists with developing new products and applications. The position is located at our corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC and reports to the Technical Service & Application Development Engineer – CPG. Hours of work are typically Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with some flex time and occasional travel.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

Work in a lab environment to create formulations using various colorants and other chemicals.

Conduct performance tests using established procedures and develop new test methods that simulate and predict field performance.

Perform purification/isolation procedures and conduct analytical characterization.

Operate and maintain different types of analytical instrumentation and processing machinery.

Maintain clean and safe work environments in a chemical lab setting.

Participate fully in the safety program of the lab community

Maintain detailed technical records in both written lab notebooks and electronic databases.

Maintain an organized inventory of test materials and prototype samples.

Prepare written reports and provide verbal updates to internal and external customers.

Manage a productive schedule to complete assigned tasks and achieve project milestones.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
-
Associate or bachelor's degree in chemistry or other scientific discipline, or relevant work experience.

Work experience in a chemical laboratory setting.

Strong math aptitude: Formulation calculations.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint and Word.

Ability to work effectively in both independent settings and collaborative team environments.

Ability to closely follow standard operating procedures and other written instructions.

Strong attention to detail in collecting qualitative observations and quantitative results.

Capable of forming conclusions by analyzing and interpreting experimental results.

Ability to communicate with associates in different functions using verbal and written formats.

Motivated to manage and prioritize multiple assignments.
