POSITION TITLE
Process Development Technician
POSITION OVERVIEW
This role is a hands-on technical position focused on executing chemical processes while building, modifying, and maintaining the equipment used to run them. The individual will work in a non-analytical lab environment where success depends on both chemistry knowledge and mechanical aptitude.
This position supports process development, scale-up, and experimental work by bridging the gap between chemical formulation and physical system design.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Applied Chemistry / Lab Work

Execute chemical reactions, formulations, and process trials in a lab or pilot-scale environment

Prepare materials, monitor reactions, and document process conditions and outcomes

Adjust formulations and process parameters based on experimental results

Maintain safe handling and storage of chemicals in accordance with EHS standards
Equipment Assembly & Mechanical Work

Build, assemble, and modify lab and pilot-scale systems including piping, pumps, reactors, and support equipment

Read and interpret mechanical drawings, P&IDs, and system layouts
-
Install and connect tubing, valves, fittings, and instrumentation

Support setup and teardown of experimental systems and test rigs
Troubleshooting & Process Support

Diagnose and resolve mechanical, process, and system performance issues

Work with engineers and chemists to improve equipment functionality and process reliability

Assist with integration of basic control systems (temperature, flow, pressure)

Perform routine maintenance and ensure equipment readiness
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
-
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Technology, Engineering Technology, or related field OR equivalent hands-on experience

Experience performing chemical work in a lab or pilot environment

Strong mechanical aptitude with hands-on experience assembling or working on equipment

Ability to read mechanical drawings, schematics, or P&IDs

Experience working with piping systems, pumps, valves, or similar industrial components
QUALIFICATIONS – PREFERRED
-
Experience in pilot plant, process development, or manufacturing environments
-
Familiarity with industrial control systems (basic PLCs, sensors, temperature/flow control)

Experience with fabrication, tubing, or system build-outs

Background in continuous improvement or process optimization
