POSITION TITLE
Laboratory Technician, Plastic Additives
POSITION OVERVIEW
This hourly position is part of Milliken Chemicals Plastics Additives Business. This Laboratory Technician position supports the development of new products and processes relevant to Milliken’s sustainability goals. The ideal candidate will have practical laboratory experience.
The position is located at our corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC. Hours of work are typically Monday – Friday 8:00 am – 5:00 pm with some flex time.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Run lab and pilot scale unit operations for process development of target molecules
- Sample analysis by GC, GC-MS, HPLC, UV-Vis and other analytical techniques
- Adept data management and quantitative analysis
- Perform mass and energy balances with experimental data
- Assist with design and build of equipment for lab and pilot scale experiments
- Develop new methods and execute non-standard tasks
- Maintain clean and safe work environments; participate fully in the safety process
- Work effectively with members of a team to achieve project targets and deadlines
- Organize and effectively communicate results (reports, tables, charts)
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
- BS or MS degree in Chemical Engineering or Chemistry
The successful candidate will have strengths in the following:
- Proficient in use of scientific method, critical thinking, and problem solving
- Previous experience in a chemical laboratory is a plus
- Work ethic and organizational skills
- Able to follow instructions and to work independently
- Strong verbal and written communications skills
- Basic personal computer skill including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases
