POSITION TITLE  

R&D Laboratory Technician 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW 

This position will provide technical laboratory support for the research and development of new products and in the discovery of applications for existing products.  The role will focus mainly on the application of chemicals and chemistry to solve various problems and report to a Ph.D. research scientist.  The position is part of Milliken Chemical, Performance Colorants & Ingredients Business and is located at our corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC.  Typical hours of work are Monday through Friday 8:00 am through 5:00 pm with some flexibility. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Perform laboratory R&D work in the area of chemical applications including functional additives and colorants for laundry, hair care, and a variety of other applications 

  • Create, test, and characterize samples using a variety of techniques and instruments 

  • Develop methods for testing and characterization of products 

  • Generate and document scientific data in a complete and detailed manner 

  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment in the laboratory 

  • Work with a focus on safety and participate fully on the safety process 

  • Collaborate effectively with a team of scientists to achieve project targets and deadlines 

  • Organize and effectively communicate results 

  • Help support Project and Process Management needs  

 

 

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED 

  • BS or MS degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Science, or related field 

  • Experience working in a laboratory including safely handling chemicals, documenting experiments, and operating analytical equipment 

  • Basic personal computer skills including word processing, spreadsheets, and databases

  • Demonstrate positive attitude and courteous behavior toward team members  

  • Perform quality work with a high level of accuracy and continuously looking for ways to improve 

  • Have willingness to continuously develop and learn new skills 

  • Previous experience in organic or analytical chemistry is a plus 

  • Previous experience in computer programming or mathematical computing is a plus
