Textile Division

Protective Fabrics Business
Milliken’s Protective Fabrics business offers high performance materials for retail apparel, fire service, and industrial workwear markets utilizing woven and knitted fabrics often with specialized chemically functionalized surfaces. These treatments include flame resistance, water repellency, moisture management, and abrasion resistance.
Job Summary
The Laboratory Technical Associate will report to the Senior Certification and Testing Manager and will be an integral team member in the growth and innovation efforts of the business. The Laboratory Technical Associate will be expected to support development and testing efforts primarily related to fire fighter turnout gear including flame resistance, fabric performance and post-finishing technologies. The position is for first shift: 8am to 5pm, M-F.
Key Responsibilities of the Laboratory Technical Associate will include:
- Work with the development team to develop new products for the market.
- Conduct laboratory experiments under the direction of the Senior Certification and Testing Manager in the area of flame-resistance and chemical finishing of textiles.
- Perform testing and chemical analysis on samples.
- Create laboratory reports detailing experimental design, testing results, and analysis.
- Participate in the RMC site safety process.
- Assist in facilitating scale-up trials at manufacturing sites.
- Maintain laboratory chemical inventory, chemical labeling, and safety data sheet compliance requirements.
Qualifications-Required:
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Science or Engineering.
- Computer skills related to data entry and tracking (Excel, Word, etc.).
- Basic understanding of statistical analysis.
- Ability to travel to local plants (day trips only).
- Able to move around to multiple job stations and operate basic tools as needed during an 8-hour day.
Highly qualified candidates will have the following additional attributes:
- Experience in industrial laboratory setting.
- Understanding of chemical concepts.
- Experience with textiles.
