POSITION TITLE

Advanced Tax Analyst

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Advanced Tax Analyst accounts for income and other taxes, assists with federal and state tax audits, and prepares federal, state and local income tax returns for Milliken and its subsidiaries. Ensures compliance with all applicable tax laws while minimizing the company’s tax liabilities. Assists with tax research and planning and special projects. Maintains high ethical standards and supports the company’s reputation for integrity.

The position is located at the company’s corporate headquarters in Spartanburg, SC, and reports to the Director of State and Local Tax. Any travel would be minimal.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Timely and accurately prepare federal, state and local income and franchise tax returns. Minimize taxes by proper application of tax exemptions, claims, credits, abatements and other tax favorable methods.
  • Assist with inter-period tax provision and allocation under ASC 740, record timing and permanent differences between income for financial and tax purposes and maintain tax basis balance sheets for deferred tax calculations.
  • Aid research and special projects to implement tax strategies, reduce worldwide taxes, and/or document and support current tax positions.
  • Work with federal, state and local tax authorities during audits or VDAs and negotiate favorable settlements of proposed assessments. Evaluate the prospects of further appeal or litigation. Perform ongoing review and research of state tax laws, court decisions, and administrative pronouncements to ensure the company’s compliance and identify opportunities for tax savings.
  • Identify process optimization opportunities and coordinate implementation of enhancements.

 

QUALIFICATIONS – REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or business administration.
  • 2-4 years’ experience with a major corporation or CPA firm, with a minimum of 2 years in tax.
  • Familiarity with accounting principles and procedures, especially ASC 740.
  • Thorough understanding of federal income and multistate and local income and franchise tax law.
  • Must be self-directed with outstanding organizational skills. Exhibits ability to handle multiple demands with a sense of urgency, drive and energy, especially in a hybrid environment.
  • Computer literacy - Microsoft Office expertise required. Knowledge and hands-on application of tax compliance and research software required. SAP, OneSource, Teams, RPA, and Alteryx experience is a plus.
  • Familiar with tax research applications and documentation best practices.
  • Meets deadlines consistently and deals effectively with auditors.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication and presentation skills.
  • Works well in group situations resolving issues.
  • Proactive and diligent in self-review of deliverables.
