POSITION TITLE / LOCATION: Facilities Environmental, Health & Safety Manager / Salisbury, MA - Mayflower Plant

POSITION REPORTS TO:  Facilities & Maintenance Engineer

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

 

As the Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Manager, you will lead the strategic planning, engagement, and implementation of the Mayflower EHS initiatives to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for OVIK Health associates and deliver on our commitment to the community and environment.  You will bring your subject matter expertise and leadership to develop a robust Safety 1st Culture, an environment of regulatory Compliance.  You will ensure that site activities align with Milliken initiatives to achieve our ongoing sustainability goals of achieving Zero Lost time incidents and Zero Environmental Violations.

This position is located at the OVIK Health Mayflower plant located in Salisbury, MA and reports to the location’s Director of Operations and Manufacturing.

 

ESSENTIAL JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Work with site leadership to establish a safety organization structure in each site to ensure all management are engaged and accountable for outcomes and hourly associates have opportunity to proactively engage in the safety processes.
  • Develop and support the site Environmental Management Systems (EMS) with a goal of achieving Milliken’s Environmental Sustainability goals, including zero environmental violations.  Develop and support EMS continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Establish New hire and on-going safety training processes for management and hourly associates to ensure understanding of their role in our Company’s foundational value of a Safety 1st workplace culture and the Environmental Management System. 
  • Develop strategies to engage hourly associates in the safety process and ensure their safety concerns are heard and addressed by site leadership.  Actively work with on-site teams and lead specific teams as needed to make progress.
  • Work with site leadership to establish a cadence of safety reviews to support the Safety 1st Culture at each site.   Ensure management accountability is established and the cadence of reviews drives this accountability.
  • Participate in Milliken Environmental Management System audits and develop Division-specific audit processes as needed to achieve compliance goals.
  • Liaison with Industrial hygiene and risk reduction consultants to support site safety regulatory compliance and risk reduction processes. 
  • Participate in and support timely and accurate environmental regulatory reporting, including air, water, waste, and SARA 312 and 313 reporting.
  • Ensure a robust incident investigation process exists at each site and is supported by site leadership – ensure timely investigation, solid root cause analysis, and thoughtful action plans using the Hierarchy of Controls as a guide to reduce chance of reoccurrence.
  • Support Company initiatives and ensure timely and accurate reporting in the Company EHS reporting system.
  • Support and help facilitate the First Responder team.
  • Educate, teach and coach others on Environmental, Health, and Safety requirements, best practices and regulatory requirements.  
  • Consistently identify issues that have greatest impact on safety performance and resolve or make recommendation for resolution
  • Ensure site safety leading metrics are captured and reported to align with goals of the Division and Company and measure and monitor progress of those goals.
  • Consult with Development to evaluate the environmental impacts and sustainability of our products and processes.
  • Work with sites, regulators, corporate environmental resources, and consultants to obtain environmental permits that support compliance and business needs.
  • Establish and maintain collaborative working relationships with other facility departments and outside contractors and vendors.
  • Foster a working environment that promotes open communications, teamwork and individual engagement to accomplish goals and objectives.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering or similar relative discipline
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in Environmental, Health, & Safety leadership roles in manufacturing environments.
  • Proven track record of establishing EH&S programs from the “ground up” along with the demonstrated ability to create and assess job and facility safety analyses.
  • Strong network within Occupational Health & Safety and other related communities
  • Ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and assess priorities effectively
  • Strong project management, influencing, problem solving and analytical skills
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • Strong problem-solving capability
  • Ability to communicate and interact at all levels
  • Bilingual Spanish/English

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

 

  • Textiles, laminating or coating experience
  • Project Management expertise

WORK ENVIRONMENT/SAFETY-SENSITIVE POSITION

This job operates in a manufacturing facility. This position is a safety-sensitive position and occasionally works around moving mechanical parts and powered industrial vehicles. Noise level can be medium to loud. Temperatures can vary depending upon the time of year and outside impacts.
