POSITION OVERVIEW

The Production Manager: Agriculture and Phase Change Lines, is accountable for the coordination and execution of production activities related to specific business units.  The position will have Safety, Quality, Delivery, Financial and Employee Engagement goals aligned to both the specific Business Unit(s) and the Portage production facility.  The position reports directly to the Plant Manager and has technical support reporting to it.  A successful candidate will need to work collaboratively with Production, Supply Chain, Maintenance, Quality, R&D, EH&S, Commercialization, and Business Unit leaders to deliver expected results.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Meet or exceed the plant’s and business unit safety, quality, delivery, and financial/profitability objectives.
  • Increase employee engagement by creating a culture of ownership and accountability.
  • Improve and sustain daily work processes through continuous improvement activities.
  • Successfully launch new products and processes which meet both customer and Encapsys objectives.
  • Develop a capable and dependable operating crew through cross training and employee skills development.
  • Maintain documentation of SOP’s, training materials, and job expectations.
  • Uphold plant safety and quality expectations.
  • Coordinate activities to safely produce products which meet quality, delivery, and cost targets.
  • Work with sales, R&D, and commercialization engineers to launch new products and deliver customer requirements.
  • Develop production standards for new and existing products, including labor, material, and time requirements.
  • Develop a full understanding of customer needs and the equipment, chemistries, and business processes used to deliver those requirements.
  • Learn and maintain adherence to regulatory requirements for the business unit raw materials, intermediates, and finished goods.
  • Demonstrate process safety principles and integrate them into new and existing manufacturing lines.
  • Determine labor requirements to deliver business unit(s) production demand and product development needs.
  • Develop a culture that engages employees to work safely, drive continuous improvement while delivering customer and business unit objectives.
  • Assist in the implementation of business process systems that enhance communications and production order status visibility.
  • Promote Encapsys Core Values.
  • Effectively manages direct report, including performance management career development, and building open and trusting relationships that further high employee performance and engagement.
     

 

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Chemical Engineering or related field
  • Experience working in a regulated chemical industry
  • Prior experience working with Hazardous Chemicals, PSM or RMP, Responsible Care, ISO14001 or SOCMA registered facility required.
  • Leader who can develop, energize, and empower others. 
  • Effective communication across a wide range or audiences.
  • Experience leading teams and implementing process improvement initiatives utilizing Six-Sigma and Lean Manufacturing methodologies.
  • Capable of maintaining ambitious standards aligned with corporate values.
  • Basic understanding of ERP, Quality management and Process control systems.
  • Experience working in dynamic environment focused on innovation and delivering customer value.
  • Familiarity with process safety management design and implementation.
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and carry up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Ability to wear a respirator as required by activity or chemical safety data sheets.
