POSITION OVERVIEW

The Maintenance/Reliability Engineer supports the engineering and maintenance departments to ensure that production equipment is operating as designed. This position is also expected to advance to build upon preventive and predictive maintenance programs and help enhance a culture of Continuous Improvement.

This position is strategic to support site running reliably to allow growth and meet customer demands.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Expand Preventive/Predictive Maintenance Program to minimized down-time of plant equipment and ensure production demands are met.
  • Develop and continuously improve maintenance strategy.
  • Adjust maintenance plans based on equipment performance and KPIs.
  • Maintain the Portage equipment maintenance records.
  • Submit and manage CAR’s following Encapsys policies and procedures.
  • Prepare and submit capital appropriations requests to secure funding and approval to execute small projects
  • Identify risks, opportunities and create counter measures.
  • Ensure P&ID’s are created to support projects.
  • Work closely with corporate and site engineering to align resources required to execute small capital installations needed to support Encapsys growth efforts.
  • Work closely with the business development teams and process design team to develop effective engineering solutions to produce new high-quality products.
  • Support capital planning efforts.
  • Maintain Engineering and Maintenance files to ensure accuracy of drawings and information.
  • Ability to wear a respirator as required by the task being performed or chemical safety data sheets.
  • Attend the periodic plant-wide safety meeting to review the status of incomplete safety items, open incident investigations, cause analysis and safety-related action plans to ensure adequate allocation of resources to enable timely completion.   When needed, take personal action to complete items and escalate issues to your immediate manager if progress is not being made.
  • Be visible to production associates on the plant floor daily.  Walk your area of responsibility multiple times daily with a focus on communicating (asking where you can help) with each associate in your area.  Ensure that associates are carrying out tasks according to the rules & procedures in place for the protection of themselves and others.  Look for at-risk behaviors and hazardous conditions (Walking & working surfaces, Guarding, workplace temperature, and atmosphere) and take action to address them immediately. 

SAFETY – Adhere to all plant safety policies and compliance regulations.  Actively participate in the safety process through completing of safety audits, participating in safety projects, identifying Site Hazards and contributing to safety improvements, and being an attending member of a safety team.  Complete annual safety training as required.

QUALITY – Become familiar with, understand and comply with Milliken Quality Policy, Standard Operating Procedure(s) (SOPs), relevant ISO 9000 standards and Company Policies that are applicable to this position.

RESPONSIBLE CARE:

a. Be aware of the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RC-14001) and follow plant procedures to ensure compliance to requirements.

 b. Understand the RC-14001 Significant Aspects of your job and help ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative impacts.

c. Take actions and identify and communicate ideas to minimize waste, prevent pollution and conserve energy. 

  •  HAZARDOUS WASTE HANDLING - All associates who handle hazardous waste shall be given an overview of the regulations and company policies regarding the management of hazardous waste.  The hazardous waste handlers shall receive detailed instruction on the proper handling, collecting, labeling, and transporting of hazardous waste as outlined in RCRA and OSHA regulations.  Instructions shall also include whom to notify in case of a spill and proper procedures for spill response.  Educational requirements include the ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.  Instructions on handling hazardous waste shall come from the hazardous waste manager or appropriate designee.

ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH, SAFETY & SECURITY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Understand the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RCMS) and RC-14001 certification.
  • Understand the importance of conformance to the Environmental, Safety and Responsible Care Policies, procedures, and the requirements of the RCMS.
  • Understand the significant environmental impacts associated with their work activities and help ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative impacts.
  • Understand the potential consequences of deviation from specified operating procedures.
  • Immediately report any accidents and releases per the company escalation protocol.
  • Comply with all environmental, health, safety, and security rules; Environmental, Safety, and Responsible Care policies and programs established by the company to the extent of training received.
  • Recognize that adhering to job responsibilities and procedures regarding environmental, safety, security, and health is a condition of employment.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the plant environmental, health, safety, security, and Responsible Care performance and programs.

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • Previous manufacturing experience.
  • Previous experience in performing equipment reliability studies, Preventive Maintenance Programs, and making recommendations for long-term improvements.
  • Knowledge of various process technologies, such as chemical processing and environmental compliance equipment.
  • Project management skills preferred (prioritization, resource allocation, and business analytics).
  • Ability to engage people in a positive manner to move projects forward on an expedited timeframe.
  • Proven ability to maintain high standards aligned with corporate values. Ability to hold people accountable and have crucial conversations.

QUALIFICATIONS – PREFERRED

  • Ability to read, understand, and modify PLC ladder logic (Allen Bradley Controls) a plus.

The successful candidate will have strengths in the following:

  • A four-year engineering degree (preferred mechanical engineering).
  • Experience in maintenance and reliability engineering.
  • At least 5 years related experience in a manufacturing environment, required.
