Performance and Protective Textile Division

Milliken’s Performance and Protective Textile Division operates in wide variety of markets including uniform apparel, napery, interior fabrics, active wear apparel, reinforcing fabrics, military fabrics, and airbags.  We provide a variety of innovative, custom-engineered materials solutions for each of these markets.  We strive to be the leader in creating high-value added, differentiated solutions to solve critical challenges within targeted market segments.

 

Uniform and Protective Business

Milliken’s Government and Defense business has been supplying the U.S Military since World War II.  The business has invested millions into advanced, sustainable product development.  The product lines include woven, knits and fleece with a variety of specialized characteristics including flame resistance, signature management, weather protection, ballistic, stab and spike protection.  The Government & Defense business delivers 10+ million yards of fabric annually to 30+ major U.S. Military clothing and textile programs.

 

Key Responsibilities of the Sample Facilitator will include:

  • Assist in development trials at Enterprise and other sites as needed
  • Proofread, correct, and issue sample orders in SAP
  • Observe plant trials and take detailed notes on processing conditions
  • Collect and submit pieces for testing
  • Learn and perform shade readings for print goods and perform NIR and SWIR checks
    • Help develop adds/changes to dye formulas to achieve customer specifications
    • Help develop adds/changes to NIR and SWIR formulas as directed by leadership
    • Help with shade work in paste area as needed or directed by leadership
  • Work with the Printing Department Range PI to create and modify print specifications on samples and new products.
  • Compile test data for evaluation
  • Provide documentation of process settings for new products
  • Support manufacturing team by troubleshooting new and existing products
  • Assist at trials at alternate finish locations when available
  • Mail samples and carry pieces to or from Spartanburg
  • Assist in quarterly inventory at Enterprise to help with:
    • Development cycle counts
    • Printing cycle counts (as needed)

 

Qualifications-Required:

  • Highly motivated, self-driven, and open-minded individual who is capable of accomplishing tasks and projects in a limited supervision environment
  • Computer skills related to data entry and tracking (Excel, Word, etc.)
  • Working in manufacturing environment with emphasis on safe work practices
  • Ability to travel to local plants (day trips only)

 

Highly qualified candidates will have the following additional attributes:

  • Experience in plant environment
  • Understanding of textile finishing concepts.
  • Experience in SAP systems
  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Science or Engineering
