For our Borchers site in Langenfeld we are looking for a Technical Service Chemist for region Europe.

In this position you are focused on supporting the development and growth of Borchers additives business, partnering, and supporting the sales team on developing new business opportunities, providing effective technical service to existing and new accounts. You will report to the European Technical Service Manager and is located in Langenfeld, Germany.
 

Essential Functions:
•    Provide technical solutions to enhance performances of resins and pigments through moderate to difficult complexity projects. 
•    Demonstrate through laboratory work and technical evidence added value and performance enhancement to the coating’s formulation.
•    Understand the competitive landscape and differentiation.
•    Provide value through top quality technical support within acceptable to aggressive timelines.
•    Communicate effectively with stakeholders at different levels: Bench chemists, Technical leaders.
•    Provide input in technical and marketing communications to promote the growth of the coatings additive business.
•    Influence the development of products on a regional level by actively participating in discussions with business and technical members.
•    Support the development of technical literature, sales tools, and training programs for internal and distributor use and for presentations to customers.
•    Maintain accurate and timely project data on Alchemy project platform.
•    Prepare reports on work completed (lab projects) and communicate internally and externally. 
•    Hands on work in the lab for all projects 
•    Commitment to EHS
•    Position requires up to 30% travel.  


Other responsibilities:
•    Initiate and drive projects related to benchmarking and competitive analysis.
•    Provide support for technical questions/issues customers. 
•    Custom formulation required to solve technical problems.
•    Author and present technical papers.
•    All other duties assigned by your supervisor.

 

Profile
•    A Bachelor of Science degree in Chemistry, or related degree (master’s degree is a plus)
•    Fluent English spoken and written
•    Languages associated with dominant coatings markets such as Spain, France, and Italy preferred but not required
•    5 + years of lab experience minimum in paints & coatings industry
•    Paint industry knowledge and awareness
•    Strong presentation and communication skills
•    Strong collaboration and teamwork skills
•    Ability to think outside of the box.
•    Preferably experience with alkyd resins formulations and formulating pigment dispersions
•    Worked with raw material supplier(s) to the coating’s industry.
