Position Summary:

Full-time technical service position focused on supporting the development and growth of Borchers' additives business, partnering with and supporting the sales team in developing new business opportunities, and providing effective technical service to existing and new accounts. 

The ideal candidate has experience formulating coatings, a passion for laboratory work, strong communication and presentation skills, and a continuous drive for technical performance, excellence, and customer value. 

This position will report to the Technical Manager, EMEA and will be based at our office and technical center in Langenfeld, Germany. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Effectively  communicate with customers, present the company and its products, and provide advice. 

• Solve customer formulation issues using coating additives through moderately to highly complex projects.  

• Provide value through top-quality technical support within acceptable to aggressive timelines. 

• Demonstrate added value and performance enhancements in coating formulations through laboratory work and technical evidence. 

• Understand the competitive landscape and product differentiation. 

• Communicate effectively with stakeholders at different levels: 

• Bench chemists 

• Technical leaders 

• Sales team 

• Customers 

• Provide input in technical and marketing communications to promote the growth of the coatings additive business. 

• Influence product development at the regional level by actively participating in discussions with business and technical team members. 

• Support the development of technical literature, sales tools, and training programs for internal and distributor use, as well as customer presentations. 

• Maintain accurate and timely project data on the Alchemy platform. 

• Prepare reports on completed laboratory projects and communicate results internally and externally.  

• Perform hands-on laboratory work for all projects.  

• Commitment to Milliken Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) policies and values. 

• This position requires up to 30% travel.   

Other Responsibilities: 

• Initiate and drive projects related to benchmarking and competitive analysis. 

• Provide support for customer technical questions and issues.  

• Develop custom formulations to solve technical problems. 

• Author and present technical papers. 

Qualifications:

• Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, chemical engineering, or an equivalent discipline (Master’s degree preferred). 

• 5+ years of experience in the coatings industry. 

• Experience formulating coatings is required. 

• Knowledge and awareness of the paint industry. 

• Strong presentation and communication skills. 

• Strong collaboration and teamwork skills. 

• Ability to think outside the box. 
• Experience formulating coatings, inks, and adhesives.
• Experience working with raw material suppliers in the coatings industry
