POSITION TITLE  

Dewey Plant - Waste Water Environmental Professional  

 

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Environmental Engineer reports directly to the site Environmental Manager and is primarily responsible for managing all activities associated with water/wastewater compliance and management systems at the Milliken Chemical, Dewey Plant located in Inman, South Carolina.  The Environmental Engineer/Scientist works with the Operations teams in all areas of the facility to ensure proper management of water and wastewater programs as well as supporting the achievement of footprint reduction goals. This position supervises four Environmental Technicians. This position has “on call” responsibilities when environmental support is needed by the manufacturing team. Typical work week is Monday to Friday, 8 AM to 5 PM. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES  

  • Supervise and direct the Environmental Technicians in accordance with defined policies and procedures 

  • Manage operation of the wastewater treatment plant 

  • Collect wastewater and soil samples and interpret test results  

  • Prepare wastewater, utility water and stormwater permit applications and interact with regulators to steward permit application through review and issuance of permit 

  • Reporting and recordkeeping of compliance activities associated with the NPDES, City of Inman Wastewater and Stormwater permits 

  • Management of the SPCC program 

  • Investigate and report spills and permit non-compliance 

  • Support activities for Title V, SARA, remediation, and waste compliance requirements 

  • Ensure compliance with all Federal, State, and Local regulations 

  • Ensure compliance with Corporate and Site Standard Practices 

  • Conduct routine on-site inspections 

  • Participate in scheduled Environmental, DOT and RC audits 

  • Read and interpret environmental regulations as well as develop and implement cost-effective compliance solutions 

  • Support improvements to Environmental Management Systems and plant environmental training 

  • Ensure procedures and actions are consistent with policy and ethical practices 

  • Support the new chemical review, MOC process, and management of SDSs 

  • Active involvement in Plant safety process and teams   

 

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED  

  • Bachelor of Science in Environmental or Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, or other technically related fields 

  • Prepare reports and legal documents 

  • Driver’s license and reliable transportation 

  • Attention to detail 

  • Analytical skills 

  • Working knowledge of MS Office 

 

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED

  • Master’s degree a plus 

  • Supervisory experience a plus 

  • Experience in wastewater & stormwater environmental compliance and management systems preferably in chemical manufacturing 

  • Experience in wastewater and stormwater permitting 

  • SC Biological Wastewater Operator B License 

  • Laboratory experience 

  • Environmental auditing experience 

  • Sustainability experience 

  • RCRA & DOT Certification 

  • Forty-hour HAZWOPER Certification 

  • Knowledge of CWA, RCRA, SARA, DOT, HAZMAT, OSHA, VPP, and RC-14001
