POSITION OVERVIEW

Milliken’s Dewey Plant is seeking a motivated and qualified individual to join our manufacturing team as a Summer Intern. This hands-on opportunity offers immersive experience in driving continuous improvement initiatives and contributing to the development and implementation of advanced manufacturing processes. Interns will play a key role in enhancing performance, quality, consistency, and cost-effectiveness across the facility.

 

As an Engineering Intern, you’ll apply mechanical or electrical engineering and safety principles to real-world projects within a dynamic manufacturing environment. Under the mentorship of experienced managers, you’ll tackle high-impact assignments designed to reduce waste, boost efficiency, streamline operations using LEAN methodologies, troubleshoot technical challenges, identify cost-saving opportunities, and refine procedural standards. While the core project will be individually led, interns will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams and department leaders. Each intern will be paired with a dedicated management sponsor to provide mentorship and support throughout the internship experience. The standard work week consist of 40 hours, 8 AM – 5 PM. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop a thorough understanding of all factors and conditions that impact the processes and products, including environmental impacts
  • Use sound project management skills to manage assigned internship project
  • Analyze problems and implement solutions using critical thinking skills and focused improvement methods
  • Incorporate creative thinking into the problem-solving approach to identify unique and different ways to make quality improvements, reduction cost
  • Prepare diagrams, charts, tables to reflect findings and support recommendations
  • Communicate and work effectively with a diverse group of associates to accomplish project and location goals
  • Participate fully in the Safety Process/Program in the Plant

 

QUALIFICATIONS – REQUIRED

  • Rising Junior or Senior working toward a BS Degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering
  • The summer intern session runs from late May until early August.  Students must be available for full-time hire during this time.
  • GPA requirement of 3.0

 

QUALIFICATIONS – PREFERRED

  • Prior manufacturing experience
