Dewey Plant - Environmental Health Safety & Security (EHSS) Manager 

 

 

POSITION OVERVIEW 

The Environmental Health Safety & Security (EHSS) Manager leads and oversees environmental, health, safety, security, and process safety programs for the Milliken Dewey Plant. This role partners with site leadership and Corporate EHS to drive compliance, reduce risk, strengthen a culture of continuous improvement, and ensure effective implementation of training, auditing, reporting, permitting, incident investigation, and emergency response programs. 

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Lead site EHSS, security, wastewater, hazardous waste, industrial hygiene, emergency response, and process safety programs in alignment with plant and corporate expectations. 

  • Partner with site personnel to identify hazards, improve engagement, and implement corrective and preventive actions that reduce incidents, injuries, and environmental releases. 

  • Maintain site EHSS management systems, calendars, metrics, reporting, permitting, audits, and required records to ensure compliance with federal, state, local, and internal requirements. 

  • Lead incident investigations, track action items to closure, and conduct assessments, audits, and inspections to identify and correct deficiencies. 

  • Oversee environmental compliance activities including air, water, waste, SARA, discharge monitoring, groundwater sampling, Title V permit support, and required agency reporting. 

  • Support and facilitate PSM activities including PHA/LOPA efforts, MOC improvements, subcommittee leadership, and risk management program integration. 

  • Design, deliver, and improve EHSS training programs for site personnel, including environmental and regulatory training, cross-training, and gap closure initiatives. 

  • Collaborate with operations and technical teams to improve wastewater treatment performance, maintain pollution monitoring systems, and support plant EHSS and Milliken Performance System initiatives. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED 

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering, science, occupational health & safety, or a related field. 

  • Minimum 5 years of related safety management, environmental, and/or supervisory experience, preferably in chemical manufacturing or a similar industrial environment. 

  • Advanced knowledge of EHSS regulations, management systems, regulatory agencies, and compliance requirements. 

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across all levels of the organization. 

  • Working expertise in process safety concepts including P&IDs, emergency relief systems, suppression systems, facility siting, and related best practices. 

  • Strong leadership, analytical, organizational, and problem-solving skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines. 

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to adapt to changing business, compliance, and risk management priorities. 

 

The successful candidate will have strengths in the following: 

  • Experience with PSM, PHA/LOPA facilitation, MOC programs, and regulatory reporting in a manufacturing environment. 

  • Ability to influence others, build consensus, and lead cross-functional teams through continuous improvement efforts. 

  • Preferred certifications or training in environmental, safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials response, or related disciplines.
