POSITION OVERVIEW
This role can be classified as Advanced level to Senior level based on the candidate’s education and experience. The responsibility of this role includes, but is not limited to: designing, directing and/or controlling several distinct chemical processes in accordance with defined policies and procedures, which this role may develop. The ideal candidate must have a thorough knowledge of chemical engineering, chemistry, and process equipment with the skills and knowledge to implement process changes. This role is responsible for process design and changes, procedural and process safety, quality, cost, waste reduction, and process training. This position may also manage and train new engineers in the above areas. This position is located at our Dewey Plant in Inman, SC.
The work schedule for this role is Monday – Friday, 1st shift. Work outside hours and on-call.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
- Analyze process reliability, capacity, throughput, and quality performance in order to develop and implement process changes to improve these measures.
- Write and modify batchsheets (Pilot Plant or Production) and other procedures for assigned processes for new or existing products detailing the processing steps and key parameters to ensure process reliability and capability while following established procedures.
- Submit recommendations for process changes or equipment modifications to improve manufacturing methods. Implement approved recommendations.
- Use sound statistical methods to analyze process inputs and outputs.
- Review all equipment preparation procedures prior to major maintenance, freeze thaw, or equipment modifications.
- Provide 24-hour assistance on emergency situations, start-ups, scale-ups, production difficulties, etc. as required.
- Maintain technical information and all necessary records on assigned processes such as process design, process safety, quality, yield, productivity, cost, and reliability.
- Improve product capability (CPK) of assigned products within process areas and investigate and implement corrective action on out-of-control products.
- Develop corrective and preventive action for processing failures in the areas of equipment failure, downtime, off-quality, late orders, and complaints.
- Respond to Quality Audits by promptly and effectively completing action requests.
- Understand quality requirements and see that requirements are met in assigned areas.
- Generate, implement and track cost improvement projects within assigned process areas and elsewhere as feasible and report progress periodically.
- Prepare training schedules and proper guidance for trainees and help in coordinating the training, so that trainees may develop into effective Process engineers.
- Responsible for process safety and environmental compliance/implementation projects.
- Ensure process PSM requirements are met.
- Actively participate in plant safety program/process.
- Bachelor's Degree in Chemical Engineering.
- 3+ years of experience in relevant or similar field and setting.
- Ability to communicate and interact with multiple levels within an organization as well as outside vendors.
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal
- Ability to climb stairs and obtain medical clearance to wear a full-face respirator
PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- 5+ years of progressive experience in chemical manufacturing or chemical engineering in a process and/or project focused role.
- Experience with Focused Improvement (DEMAIC, Six Sigma)
- Experience in control systems (Siemens PCS7, Delta V).
- Experience with both batch and continuous processes.
- Experience with PSM covered chemical processes.
- Experience with Capital project and control system startups.
