Laurel Plant - Engineering Services Manager
POSITION OVERVIEW
The Engineering Services Manager at our Laurel Plant is responsible for the safe, compliant, and efficient operation of all plant equipment, utility systems, and infrastructure. This strategic leadership role drives reliability, continuous improvement, and maintenance excellence in a regulated process manufacturing environment. The role also includes oversight of associate development, cost control, and quality systems.
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
Maintenance & Reliability
- Ensure reliable operation of all process equipment, utility systems, buildings, and infrastructure.
- Lead implementation of preventive, predictive, and reliability-centered maintenance (RCM).
- Manage maintenance work order and planning systems to minimize downtime and track costs.
- Collaborate on multi-year capital and maintenance project planning and execution.
- Assist with root cause analysis and corrective actions for equipment failures.
- Ensure compliance with Management of Change procedures and maintain relevant documentation.
Safety, Environment & Regulatory Compliance
- Implement procedures and policies for employee and job safety.
- Ensure compliance with all relevant regulatory requirements including OSHA PSM, EPA, and RMP.
- Ensure adherence to applicable standards and codes such as:
- American Petroleum Institute (API)
- National Fire Protection Association (NFPA)
- American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME)
- National Electric Code (NEC)
- Lead department safety initiatives and promote safety as a core behavior.
- Conduct safety audits, incident investigations, and implement corrective actions.
- Support Responsible Care (RC-14001) initiatives including waste minimization and pollution prevention.
Cost Management
- Assist in preparation and management of the annual maintenance budget.
- Monitor departmental spending and identify opportunities for cost reduction.
Associate Development & Leadership
- Oversee hiring, training, and performance management of maintenance personnel.
- Ensure timely completion of performance reviews and required training (CBTs, GEMs, safety).
- Foster a culture of engagement, morale, and continuous improvement.
- Review disciplinary actions and ensure consistent application of HR policies.
Quality & Compliance
- Ensure adherence to Milliken’s Quality Policy, SOPs, ISO 9000 standards, and company policies.
- Promote quality awareness and collaboration across departments.
QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Chemical, or Electrical Engineering.
- Minimum 10+ years of maintenance experience in regulated process industries (e.g., chemicals, pharmaceuticals, oil & gas).
- At least 3 years of supervisory experience in a plant setting.
- Strong knowledge of OSHA, PSM, EPA, RMP, and other regulatory frameworks.
- Familiarity with industry standards such as API, NFPA, ASME, and NEC.
- High proficiency in Microsoft Office and Microsoft Project.
- Must be authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship.
The successful candidate will have strengths in the following:
- Experience in chemical plant operations and industrial construction.
- Expertise in RCM and predictive maintenance tools.
- Familiarity with SAP and Maintenance Planning Systems.
- Strong communication and leadership skills across all organizational levels.
