POSITION OVERVIEW

As a Chemical Sample Technician at Milliken & Company – Hawthorn Plant, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing the Samples Program to support the development and expansion of our diverse product portfolio. Your key responsibilities will include managing sample inventory levels, ensuring timely and efficient fulfillment of sample requests, and coordinating the shipment of materials in adherence to regulatory guidelines. This role requires a detail-oriented individual with strong organizational skills to maintain seamless operations and contribute to the growth of all Milliken & Company - Borchers’ brands.

 

The work schedule for this role is Monday – Friday, 1st shift.

 

 

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Sample Preparation: Accurately weigh, measure, and fill sample requests in accordance with processed orders and transportation guidelines.
  • Chemical Handling: Appropriately handle chemicals using the required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Packaging and Shipping: Properly package, label, and ship samples globally through various carriers, ensuring compliance with DOT, IATA, and/or ICAO regulations.
  • Documentation: Prepare and manage all necessary documentation for export shipments, including Dangerous Goods Declarations, Commercial Invoices, and other related requirements to ensure timely delivery.
  • Inventory Management: Manage and maintain an accurate inventory of all chemicals by placing orders as needed and logging usage and received material in the SAP system.
  • Packaging Supplies: Order and maintain an adequate supply of packaging and shipping materials.
  • Regulatory Compliance: Maintain required UN packaging certificates and packing instructions.
  • Work Environment: Ensure a safe, clean, and organized work environment in both the Chemical Storage Area and the Samples Area.
  • Reporting: Prepare and distribute sampling reports to business managers.
  • Documentation Management: Maintain proper electronic and hard copy files/documentation of all shipments, UN test certificates, packaging instructions, etc. in accordance with management requirements and federal regulations.
  • Communication: Effectively communicate constraints and inventory availability to internal teams, including Customer Service, Sales, Technical, and Marketing.
  • Coordination: Coordinate with multiple sites/locations to manage inventory and stocking levels, based on shipping and production lead times.
  • Professionalism: Maintain a positive attitude and professional demeanor in all business dealings.
  • Independence: Work independently with minimal supervision.
  • Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in Chemical and/or DG Shipping.
  • Self-motivated requiring little direct supervision.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Ability to proofread and interpret written documents.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to communicate and interact with multiple levels within an organization as well as outside vendors.

 

PERFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Experience using SAP.
  • DOT HAZMAT, IATA, DG certification, and ICAO technical instructions.
  • Experience with classifying/determining Limited Quantity, Excepted Quantity, and marking/labeling Special Packaging.
  • Experience shipping DG using DHL and FedEx software.
  • Experience with Export documentation and INCO terms.
  • Experience with PSM covered chemical processes.
  • Ability to operate fork-lift.
