POSITION TITLE

Support Operator

 

POSITION OVERVIEW

This position is at the Milliken Hawthorn Plant located in Franklin, PA and reports to the Senior Operations Manager or Senior Engineering Services Leader. The position is responsible for assisting Production, Shipping, & Maintenance Operators with daily activities as needed. Entry level associates will be expected to learn basic chemical and material handling skills. Qualified Support Operators will be able to work safely in a chemical manufacturing environment, learn chemical processing and obtain multiple job certifications to progress to top pay.

 

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Package and label liquid products per procedure
  • Package and label solid products per procedure
  • Operating drum and pail filler and palletizers at drumming station
  • Use of manifolds to support packaging activities
  • Notify the supervisor of any equipment, process or product abnormalities 
  • Keep the work area clean and orderly.
  • Notify the supervisor of any out-of-calibration or improperly functioning equipment.
  • Handle all nonconforming materials, floor sweepings, and material cleaned from the hopper, dust collector, and pastillator, per procedure.
  • Open and complete process orders for packaged materials
  • Maintain inventories and trigger orders for depleted stocks.
  • Repair or replace tote gaskets, fittings, and other accessories as required.
  • Inspect totes per procedure in compliance with 49CFR.
  • Maintain parts and report ordering requirements to the production supervisor.
  • Provide pail filling support (labeling, palletizing, wrapping, etc.)
  • Provide hole watch for confined space entry.
  • Move materials to and from racks.
  • Obtain the required work permits prior to starting a job.
  • Complete and turn in all paperwork with the work order.
  • Keep the supervisor informed on the status of assigned tasks.
  • Following all safety rules and material handling precautions.
  • Handle all materials with consideration of the environmental impact.
  • Provide fire watch for hot work activities.
  • Clear snow and ice as required.
  • Perform repairs and install insulation.
  • Identify issues that may lead to environmental, health, or safety issues.
  • Must follow Standard Work as laid out by Corporate Safety
  • Be aware of the relevant requirements of the Responsible Care Management System (RC-14001) and follow plant procedures to ensure compliance with requirements.
  • Understand the RC-14001 Significant Aspects of your job and help ensure controls are in place to reduce or eliminate negative impacts.
  • Take actions and identify and communicate ideas to minimize waste, prevent pollution and conserve energy.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of the plant environment, health, safety, security, and Responsible Care performance and programs.
  • Complete all RCRA-required regulatory training (see EHS SOP 14 and individual Training Matrix).
  • Other duties as assigned 

 

QUALIFICATIONS - REQUIRED

  • High School Diploma.
  • Self-motivated requiring little direct supervision to accomplish tasks
  • Good communication skills
  • Ability to read and interpret documents such safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiple & divide.

 

QUALIFICATIONS - PREFERRED

  • Familiar with basic mechanical, carpentry, and plumbing work.
  • Prior experience in a chemical or manufacturing environment.
