Job description: PLC Microprocessor Technician

General Description: 

Provides technical assistance for plant’s PLC based systems. Duties include, but are not limited to, troubleshooting PLC hardware faults, troubleshooting PLC software faults, programming, SIR and AR completions.

Primary Job Functions and Work Schedule:

Provide technical support to plant machinery by maintaining and troubleshooting PLC based systems throughout the plant.  Schedule is primarily 8a-4p Mon-Fri, with flexibility required and allowed for call in, call back, or complete required job duties when equipment may be scheduled down time outside of the Mon-Fri times.  Schedule flexibility is expected and non-standard work times are compensated to ensure a proper work/life balance is maintained. 

 

Required General Skills:

  • Strong understanding of Ethernet, TCP/IP routing, Network packet analysis tools use and configuration.
  • Strong technical and analytical skills.
  • Solid experience in problem analysis and resolution of software problems.
  • Proven ability to function in a self-directed environment.
  • Must excel in a fast-paced, agile environment where critical thinking and strong problem-solving skills are required for success.
  • Innovative thinker who is positive, proactive, and readily embraces change.
  • Ability to communicate professionally during all interfaces.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.

 

Required Technical Skills:

 

  • Capable of utilizing all current PLC programming software, to include but not limited to Allen Bradley RSLogix, Siemens Step 7, Omron, and GE Fanuc. Must be able to set and establish communications protocols with on line processors and make programming changes as necessitated and documented in SIR and ARs.
  • Capable of troubleshooting and replacing as necessary any PLC hardware on any of the previously mentioned PLC types. Also, responsible for maintaining appropriate inventory levels for these parts.
  • Capable of programming drive parameters and communications
  • Capable of utilizing ABB mod 300 system to assist in troubleshooting system.
  • Capable of calibrating various types of instrumentation.
  • Extensive knowledge of all facets of plant operations including production equipment, utilities and compounding equipment.
  • Assist troubleshooters as necessary with normal electrical faults and malfunctions.
  • Maintain proper documentation of all PLC related processes and changes including red line changes on drawings, proper rung descriptors on programs and any other change related documentation.

  • Project implementation and execution.
  • Responsiveness to trouble calls and call-ins.
  • Responsiveness to process inquiries.
