Spray Dryer Process Lead



We are expanding our operations and our commitment to the Fox Valley with the development of a new state of the art ISO9001 facility committed to sustainable chemical industry practices. Our technology improves the effectiveness and sustainable nature of key leading products in transportation, agriculture, and other essential global industries. The new facility further positions Encapsys as the leading encapsulation company in the world.



This position is located in Appleton, Wisconsin at Encapsys, a wholly owned subsidiary of Milliken.  The Spray Dryer Process Lead is responsible for the operation of production equipment in the spray drying area used to produce products in a safe and efficient manner. The role would lead other operations staff, including training and coaching less experienced operators, working with engineering to implement improvements to the area, and have control over troubleshooting equipment issues.



  • Lead and manage all spray dry operations focusing on continuously improving productivity, processes, employee engagement, and timely production of high-quality products
  • Develop detailed understanding of process equipment, chemistry and monitor daily quality and process trends.
  • Lead investigations, document root cause and implement corrective actions to resolve equipment, processing or product quality issues.
  • Drive continuous improvement and manage change management systems.
  • Work closely with process engineers, project teams, operators, and customers in order to support the commercialization new products and maintain desire quality.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to startup and production.
  • Support Encapsys Key Performance Indicators (KPI) by contributing to team efforts that strive to guarantee quality, minimize cost, meet delivery promises, maintain processes, and work safely.
  • Safe handling of equipment and materials understanding the hazards and proper utilization of PPE.
  • Lead 5S standards and set expectations for cleanliness and quality
  • Effective communication with team members and management
  • Work overtime to cover vacancies/vacations and meet customer requirements
  • Promote teamwork by assisting other where and when needed
  • Train new or less experienced team members in spray drying and powder handling
  • Cross train to other processes and positions for business continuity and flexibility
  • Complete manual operations as required by the process, troubleshooting when needed
  • Document process critical data timely and accurately
  • Ensure that activities meet all environmental laws and regulations and provide insight to continually reduce our impact on the environment.
  • Participate in continuous improvement efforts, develop best practices and updates to SOPs
  • Perform basic care, housekeeping and maintenance of equipment and work area
  • Communicate operational needs within team and with management
  • Perform activities related to shipping and receiving
  • Ability to occasionally push, pull and carry up to 60 pounds
  • Ability to wear a respirator as required by the task being performed or chemical safety data sheet.





  • Experience in GMP, Process Safety Management (PSM) or ISO9001 facility preferred.
  • Experience with Microsoft software applications helpful. Keyboarding proficiency and general computer knowledge/experience preferred.
  • Experience in chemical manufacturing, preferred.
  • Technical Training or Degree a Plus.
  • Capable of safely driving a tow-motor.
