JOB TITLE:                          Cloth Inspector

 

JOB CLASSIFICATION:   Advanced Support Operator

 

REPORTS TO:                     Production Manager

 

PURPOSE:                            Examine cloth for any defects or abnormalities in fabric construction

 

GENERAL REQUIREMENTS:

RESPONSIBILITIES:

1)  Knowledge of all general plant safety rules & absolutes.

2)  Operate equipment in a safe manner

3)  Meet production goals set-out by department manager

4)  Follow proper policies and procedures and job specifications set out by department and location

 

SKILL REQUIREMENTS:

  1. Ability to read, write, and follow directions
  2. Ability to comprehend written and verbal instructions
  3. Basic Math (add, subtract, multiply, divide)
  4. Attention to Detail-thoroughness and accuracy when accomplishing a task ensuring all aspects are reviewed
  5. Adaptability-adapts to changes in the work environment
  6. Ability to identify and classify defects
  7. Ability to synch EVS maps with the inspection frame

 

JOB SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Knowledge of Inspector policies and procedures

2) Completing daily team maintenance (DTM) activities

3) Auditing safety items in department

4) Grading fabric

5) Identify and mark defects

6) Sew non-standard rolls together rolls together to reach standard doff length

7) Move rolls (using hoist and/or forklift), as required

8) Ending BARCO pieces and starting new pieces

  12. Roll ID labels
  13. Rolls of Fabric

 

PERSONAL PROTECTIVE EQUIPMENT -- Ear protection; Steel-toe safety shoes

 

 

AUTHORIZED TRAINING TIME:

12 Weeks for Certification

 

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:  FREQUENCY, AMOUNT, OR DESCRIPTION

 

Standing: 2 hours a day to sew, creel, doff rolls, retrieve tubes and complete paperwork

Sitting:  10 hours sitting to inspect fabric; 75 minutes of break time                                               

Moving:  Moving about once an hour to start a new roll.

Lifting:  Lift cloth tubes and safety rod (15 lbs.) approximately 12 times daily.  

Climbing: Must be able to step up approximately 5 inches to reach the walk board on Inspection Frame.

Push/Pull: Small amount of pushing to adjust rolls

Reach:  Reaches approximately 3 feet to operate frame control board and to mark defects

Bending/Stooping:  Some bending required to retrieve tubes from racks (10%)

Visual Acuity:  Must be able to accurately read roll information (style, pattern, etc.) be able to identify defects on rolls of fabrics

 

 

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This job operates in a manufacturing facility. This position regularly works around moving mechanical parts and powered industrial vehicles. Noise level is generally loud.
