Milliken & Company (www.milliken.com) is looking to hire student co-ops for the 2023 calendar year at its world-class encapsulation plant located in Portage, Wisconsin. This is a competitively paid co-op position that is being offered to students in a Chemical Engineering or a Mechanical Engineering program. Co-ops are also offered a special benefits package which includes a housing stipend and paid company holidays.
Encapsys a subsidiary of Milliken and Company operates in the specialty chemicals industry. Holding over 75 encapsulation patents, Encapsys is a leader in encapsulation technologies within three primary business segments – Fragrance, Phase change, and Growth. Encapsys operates highly scalable encapsulation processes that deliver superior products with batch size flexibility from drum to tanker sizes. Encapsys participates in the global encapsulation market currently estimated at $4 billion.
Milliken and Company takes pride in providing co-ops with opportunities to build strong resumes through matching individual interests with available projects. The Milliken and Company co-op students comprise up to 20% of the technical workforce, therefore Milliken and Company provides projects with a high level of responsibility that have strong impacts on the bottom line. Co-ops will work on both collaborative and independent projects in conjunction with the engineer/scientist project leaders. Each co-op is assigned a mentor to provide guidance through the processes of training, developing, and contributing.
Typical process engineering duties include:
- Involvement in the day-to-day operations of a world-class encapsulation plant as a process engineer
- Participation in project work, daily duties, production meetings, and production-scale trials
- Producing written summary reports and presentations
- Working 40-50 hours per week, occasionally working some late days, nights, and/or weekends (the plant is a 24-hr per day and 5-day per week operation)
Education, experience, and qualifications:
- Educational background includes individuals earning their B.S. or M.S. with at least a 3.00 GPA in the following program:
- Junior or Senior
- Chemical Engineering
- Mechanical Engineering
- Other supporting competencies include:
- Self-motivated and driven for project completion
- Work independently
- Apply engineering and scientific principles to resolve problems and make improvements
- Capable of operating in a flexible and dynamic manufacturing environment
- Interact effectively with customers, management and production personnel
- Work safely around manufacturing equipment
