We primarily hire scientists and engineers with advanced-degrees directly into R&D positions. The main divisions hiring these associates are Milliken Research Corporation and Milliken Chemical.

What Will You Do?
Milliken's unconventionally large R&D commitment has led to the development of proprietary core technologies and products, which are changing the paradigms of many industries. Research Scientists and Engineers strive to create new technology platforms for Milliken & Company and to expand upon our current core competencies – specialty yarns, specialty chemicals, computer-aided design and manufacturing (CAD/CAM), engineered textile structures, face finishing, and textile chemistry. The specialty chemicals core competency includes polymeric colorants, antimicrobials, plastics additives, and chemical intermediates.

A typical innovator working with Milliken & Company will spend his/her time as follows:

  • 15% Basic Research – blue sky-type research of his/her choosing
  • 75% Applied Research Work – project has been approved by his/her supervisor as either expanding core competencies, generating new platform technologies, creating new products, or providing vital customer technical support.
  • 5% Department Support – recruiting, safety, intellectual property workshops, corporate initiatives
  • 5% Department meetings, education, business meetings, travel

Nearly all of our newly hired Research and Development associates are located at the company headquarters in Spartanburg, S.C. Research associates work in a variety of settings, from a traditional wet chemistry laboratory to a large-scale applications equipment laboratory.
